Las Vegas Introduction

In word association, Las Vegas is synonymous with gambling but that is only one string to its multi-corded bow. It is a city that provides twenty-four hour entertainment from gaming tables to concerts, from world championship boxing matches to golfing and from leisurely spa treatments to hiking in the Red Rock National Park.

Las Vegas has some of the most sumptuous hotels in the world catering for ones every need. It is a dynamic city where shops and restaurants never close.

Las Vegas is also a popular venue for weddings and hosts many ceremonies each year.

Why Go To Las Vegas

It is hard to believe, when visiting Las Vegas, that a little over a hundred years ago it was a quiet, sparsely populated desert area. Now, brash neon colours light up the arid, rocky basin inviting you to the city that never sleeps. A Las Vegas holiday offers casinos with every kind of gambling activity, slot machine halls that have to be seen, and heard, to be believed (the volume of noise is fairly high on the decibel scale), golf courses to suit most levels of ability and five star luxury hotels with spas and swimming pools.

A Las Vegas holiday is popular with couples of all ages as well as groups of young men and women. Those who enjoy the occasional flutter will be overwhelmed by the number of casinos and the scale of gambling. Golfers enjoy excellent courses with the guarantee of good weather. Las Vegas is also popular with wedding parties.

When To Go To Las Vegas

A Las Vegas holiday can be taken at any time of year. The winter temperatures are close to 60 degrees Fahrenheit while in the summer they can soar to 105 degrees. There is very little rain.

Las Vegas - The Place

Although Las Vegas is located in a desert landscape surrounded by mountains, there are plenty of trees, lush lawns, plants and golf courses in this carefully cultured town. It is Nevada’s busiest city and is renowned for its gambling, shopping and entertainment facilities. The famous Las Vegas Strip has four and a half miles of casinos, hotels, shops and theatres providing dawn to dawn entertainment. This popular city receives almost forty million visitors every year, who go to enjoy a wide range of attractions.

Apart from gaming tables and slot machines and shows starring such stars as Cher and Tina, there is no shortage of exciting leisure activities. There are theme parks with roller coasters and rides that will challenge the strongest of stomachs. America’s largest indoor theme park is in Vegas and has its fair share of thrilling rides. Take a sixty minute lesson at the speedway and then race around the track. Golfers have a great choice of courses catering for a wide range of ability.

Las Vegas Nightlife

In Las Vegas it is hard to know when day ends and night begins and vice versa. It is the liveliest of places offering all kinds of entertainment including concerts, cabarets, and shows that attract many of the big names in entertainment. There are restaurants catering for all tastes and pockets as well as a host of bars and clubs. There are also many venues advertising adult entertainment. Las Vegas did not achieve the title ‘sin city’ easily.

Las Vegas Shopping

Las Vegas is a shopper’s paradise, where most retailers have twenty-four hour opening. There is very little that you can’t buy in Las Vegas as the range of goods being sold is huge.

Las Vegas Eating

The choice of food is endless providing for every taste, appetite and pocket. It is possible to find menus from almost every corner of the world as well as fast food and ‘eat as much as you like buffets.’ If you choose carefully you can eat well on a very low budget. Conversely, if you want to splash out on haute cuisine you will find plenty of opportunities in the first class restaurants.

Tipping in America is calculated at twice the local tax rate, roughly fifteen to twenty percent.
