Les Menuires Introduction

Les Menuires lies at an altitude of eighteen fifty metres in the Belleville Valley, one of the Three Valleys in the Savoire region of the French Alps. Dating from the sixties its high rise accommodation lacks the charm of other French villages and, perhaps because of this, holidays are cheaper and considered good value. Together with the other two valleys, the area offers six hundred kilometres of skiing that caters for every level from novice to expert. The varied terrain provides great conditions for snowboarding both in snow parks and on the slopes. An adequate supply of lifts gives easy access to the slopes. There are ski schools for all, including children from three years of age. Creche facilities exist for babies from six months if they have an up to date vaccination certificate. Les Menuires has a large number of restaurants and bars providing a fairly lively nightlife. There are shops for holiday essentials as well as sports equipment and clothing.

Les Menuires - The Place

Skiing in the Three Valleys in the Alps is considered to be some of the best in Europe. Les Menuires lies beneath Val Thorens at an altitude of one thousand eight hundred and fifty metres. The vast area provides such a range of pistes and snow parks that they accommodate all levels of ability. Les Menuires is divided into areas with Le Croisette being the original centre. It is here that many of the shops and restaurants are found. A free shuttle bus connects the areas. The resort was developed without any thought of it blending into the mountain scenery and it is, without wishing to be unkind, rather ugly. However, as the resort has expanded, later developments do have more appeal.

Thirty nine ski lifts connect Les Menuires to the slopes and to the valleys beyond where the skiing is superb. The area accommodates all levels of expertise from the absolute beginner to professional skiers. There are ski schools, ideal for the novice who can then enjoy the many blue runs close to the resort. Experienced skiers can find many uncrowded areas at high altitudes on La Masse Mountain. There are so many routes for the intermediate skier that they can delight in different scenery every day of their holiday. There are excellent facilities for snowboarders.
