Ialyssos Introduction

Ialyssos lies on the northern tip of Rhodes just eight kilometres south west of Rhodes Town and very close to the resort of Ixia. Ialyssos is a popular resort with large hotels and apartments stretching around its large bay. Restaurants, bars and tavernas cater for all tastes, and bars and clubs provide a lively nightlife. Ialyssos has many leisure facilities to keep its holidaymakers entertained, both in and put of the water. The almost constant breeze from the north provides excellent conditions for wind surfing.

The most popular time to visit Ialyssos is in the summer, although the season does extend from March to November, when the temperature range is from twenty to thirty degrees.

Ialyssos - The Place

Ialyssos, a short distance south west of Rhodes town is a popular resort with a pebbly beach and clear blue water. Ialyssos lies on a wide bay and is exposed to breezes from the north which are very welcome in the heat of the summer and also create ideal conditions for wind surfing, kite surfing and sailing. Along the waterfront is a range of accommodation from large hotel complexes to apartments, and small family run hotels for those who like a more personal atmosphere.

The beach is comprised of pebbles and shingle and shelves gently into clear waters providing safe bathing for children and less confident swimmers. A wide variety of water sports are available and there is a wind surfing school. The conditions in Ialyssos are so good for this sport that international competitions are held here.

There are many bars restaurants and tavernas along the waterfront providing a wide range of cuisine that caters every palate. There are mini-markets for essentials as well as a large number of souvenir shops for your gifts and holiday mementoes.

A ten minute walk inland takes you to the village of Ialyssos, a charming atmospheric place surrounded by fruit trees and olive groves. Here you can explore the Byzantine monastery; the old church in the village square, ancient ruins and enjoy the atmosphere of the traditional tavernas.

A local bus travels to Rhodes Town which is well worth visiting. The Castle of the Knights of St. John is one of the finest examples of Crusader military architecture in the world. Once within the walls of the town explore the towers and the narrow cobbled streets with their bazaars and market stalls.

Ialyssos Nightlife

Ialyssos nightlife is very lively with hotels, bars clubs and discos providing evening entertainment along the waterfront. A short walk inland will take you to the old village where you can enjoy peaceful evenings in traditional tavernas. For a livelier choice of nightlife take a taxi to Rhodes Town with its wide variety of venues.

Ialyssos has mini-markets providing for all your holiday needs. There are many souvenir shops where you can purchase holiday gifts and mementoes.
