Hemsedal is the pride of Norwegian ski resorts and it attracts skiers and snowboarders from all over Europe. Lying at the fairly low altitude of six hundred metres, with the highest skiing at fifteen hundred metres, the resort nevertheless has a very good snow record and offers good skiing throughout the season. Hemsedal has thirty six kilometres of pisted downhill skiing and eighty kilometres of cross country trails. Beginners have a good choice of low altitude gentle runs where they can quickly gain confidence and progress to the wide blue slopes. Intermediate skiers can find demanding slopes both above and below the tree line. Advanced skiers have eight black runs covering seven kilometres of pistes with good mogul fields and great off-piste opportunities. They can also try their skill on the World Cup slalom course where races are held there twice weekly. Hemsedal has ideal terrain for snowboarders with a snow park with half pipes, quarter pipes rails and jumps. Fourteen lifts give quick and easy access to the slopes. Two ski schools provide excellent tuition. There are special areas for children with gentle slopes and moving carpet lifts. Lynxland provides outdoor childcare where they can play safely on skis or toboggans while parents are free to enjoy the snow.
