El Gouna Introduction

El Gouna lies thirty-five kilometres north of Hurghada on the Red Sea coast in Egypt. The resort is built on small islands, joined by bridges over blue lagoons, and covers ten kilometres of coastline. Although it is purpose built and therefore without a history, it nevertheless is a charming place as great effort has been put into the planning and the architecture of the resort. The resort is self-contained having all the facilities that modern travellers have come to expect. There are excellent shops and boutiques, wonderful restaurants and a wide range of leisure activities both in and out of the water.

Why Go To El Gouna?

El Gouna holidays offer luxurious accommodation, in an idyllic resort offering year long sunshine, sandy beaches, warm clear water, numerous water sports and many land based leisure activities. The landscaped hotel gardens stand in sharp contrast to the red desert sand and the turquoise waters of the lagoons and the Red Sea.

El Gouna appeals to a wide variety of holidaymakers. It is the perfect holiday destination for those who wish for a relaxing time by the pool in luxurious surroundings, or basking in the sun on bleached sands. Aqua sport enthusiasts will find their days filled as the variety seems almost unlimited. Golfers can enjoy the eighteen hole championship course.

When To Go To El Gouna

December to March is the most popular time to holiday in El Gouna as this is the period when temperatures lie comfortably in the twenties. The temperature then begins to rise reaching the high thirties in summertime.

El Gouna - The Place

El Gouna covers ten kilometres of Red Sea coastline and is framed by the cinnamon sand of the desert. It is a modern purpose built resort that spreads across many little islands linked by bridges. The architects appear to have considered every aspect of holiday satisfaction when they planned the resort as the facilities are both wide-ranging and first rate.

The hotels all offer a high standard of accommodation. Those who book half-board do not have to eat in their own hotel each evening as El Gouna operates a Dine-Around system. This means guests are free to sample food in a variety of hotel restaurants.

El Gouna is said to be a diver’s paradise. The waters off the coast are crystal clear and the sea teems with colourful marine life offering perfect conditions for scuba diving and snorkelling. There are many other water sports including wind surfing, kite surfing and jet skiing. On land, there are tennis courts, a go-kart track, horse and camel riding and an eighteen hole championship golf course. If you wish to play golf you will need to bring your handicap certificate.
