Last Minute Holidays
The number of people booking last minute holidays is increasing every year due to two main factors. Firstly, people's lives are busier, with both partners in the typical family often working, making more difficult for people to know in advance when they will be able to take time off to travel on holiday. Secondly, the increase in no-frills airlines, as well as the ease of booking travel over the internet or telephone, have made it easier for people to book last minute holidays.
Last minute holidays are available for most of the year, though there can still be limited availability for holidays at peak periods. Typically this will include the kids school holiday weeks, and this is becoming even more so as a result of the Government's campaign to reduce the number of schoolchildren taken out of school during school terms.
Whilst there are often last minute holidays available at bargain prices this is not always the case. Traditional package holidays have often been cheaper than those sold in advance, as tour operators had to discount committed flights at the last minute to ensure the seats were sold. This was often the case for departures in the so called shoulder periods ie May/June and September/October. However at peak periods including public and school holidays, last minute holidays are often more expensive than those booked early. This is particularly the case when booking low cost airlines whose pricing model is to increase prices closer to departure date.
