Sidari

Sidari Introduction

Sidari lies towards the west on the northern coast of Corfu. It is almost forty kilometres from Corfu Town and has a transfer time of ninety minutes. Originally a small fishing village, Sidari has expanded and now includes Canal D’Amour a village to the west. Sidari has a long sandy beach as well as two smaller beaches and a number of coves. A Sidari holiday offers days of sunshine by the sea with a wealth of recreational facilities, good restaurants and a supply of gift and souvenir shops.

Why Go To Sidari?

The northern coast of Corfu has excellent sandy beaches and Sidari is no exception. The main beach is long and sandy and slopes gently into the sea. It is a popular resort with a lively nightlife, good restaurants and a wide range of leisure pursuits.

A Sidari holiday appeals to a wide range of ages and interests. Families with children, couples of all ages and even young singles groups all enjoy the fun-filled days and lively nights that Sidari offers.

When To Go To Sidari

The Sidari holiday season extends from Easter until October, the most popular time being in the summer when the temperatures rise from the low twenties to the mid thirties.

Sidari - The Place

Sidari is a popular resort on the north coast of Corfu that has grown from a small fishing village into a vibrant fun-loving tourist centre. The soft sand of the main beach stretches around the bay and slopes gently into the sea providing safe bathing for children and weak swimmers.

The other beaches are near the harbour in the east and the Canal D’Amour to the west. The Canal D’Amour is a popular attraction with its unusual rock formations and sheltered inlets. For more energetic holidaymakers, there are a wide number of water sports available from the beach. Tavernas, bars and shops line the waterfront offering day long refreshments. The bars and pubs, restaurants, music bars and clubs combine to provide a lively nightlife that suits all ages and tastes. There are many pleasant walks along the cliffs, as well as inland, where you can explore traditional villages that have remained unspoiled by tourism. A regular bus service goes to Corfu Town and there are excursions from the harbour to Paxos and Erikoussa.

A Sidari holiday offers lively fun, in guaranteed sunshine on a great beach, followed by even livelier nights.

Sidari Nightlife

Sidari nightlife is very lively with a large number of bars and clubs remaining open until dawn. Karaoke is very popular and the music bars play an eclectic mix of music. There are many sports bars screening live events.

Sidari Shopping

Sidari has a variety of shops providing holiday essentials as well as gifts and souvenirs. The island is noted for the craftsmanship of its jewellers and has some excellent gold and silver jewellery shops. Popular buys are leather goods, items made from olive wood, handmade lace and embroidered linens. Brightly painted ceramics are also in demand.

Sidari Eating

Sidari restaurants and tavernas cater for every taste and pocket. There are fast food outlets and English style pubs for the less adventurous palate. Many tavernas serve traditional food and a large number of restaurants provide international cuisine.

If you wish to sample local cuisine, try a plate of tapas, where you are given small portions of a variety of dishes. Popular dishes are small fried fish, shellfish and kalamari. A delicious dish is ‘pastitsada’, a Corfiot lasagne with layers of meat, tomato, herbs and spices, pasta and béchamel sauce. Tempting snacks in the form of souvlakis, a type of kebab, are sold from fast food stalls. For a more substantial snack these are sometimes wrapped in pita bread and called gyros.

Local wines are easy on the palate as well as the purse.
Eating in Corfu is meant to be a pleasure and is not to be rushed. Waiters will not hover over you waiting to remove plates. Don’t mistake this for tardy service.

I have stayed here twice, and if you are looking for a quiet relaxing holiday, this is not for you. By day this is a fun family resort with lots of activites for older and younger children. There are numerous water sports on the beach, and plenty of places were you can book local excursions cheaper than booking through you travel rep. There are plenty of restaurants on the main strip. There is plenty of choice, and all tastes are catered for. By night this resort changes into a livley resort, the strip is full of livley bars which are open til the early hours of the morning. There are two nightclubs in the resort which are open til around 6am, if you can last that long......... This is a graet holiday if you are wanting a resort with plenty to do during the day and lively at night.

I went to Sidari twice in 2007 and really enjoyed my stay there both times. I feel Sidari is a resort that is lively enough to have fun but not an 18-30's type place. There are loads of bars there and a couple of clubs- they dont cost a fortune to get in and drinks prices are reasonable in comparison to clubs in resort such as ayia napa or san antonio. The beach is really nice, it is sandy and the water is really shallow for quite a way out to sea...You can hire sunbeds on the beach for 2.50 euro each and 2.50 euro for an umberella. There are plenty of beach snack bars and a watersports place on the beach which i recommend if you want to try the jetskis or pedalos for the not so brave. If you go to Sidari I suggest going to the Three Little Pigs restauraunt which holds best Greek dancing show between about 8-10pm while you are dining -really worth a visit...plate smashing at its best try the local dish mussakah! Other good places to eat were memories and Konaki Greek Taverna and also Romana Pizzaria....authentic pizzas. Sidari is a great resort for all....i thoroughly enjoyed it.
