Bangkok Protesters In Balloon Threat
Posted on 06 September 2007
Noise Protesters in Thailand have threatened a balloon attack on the airlines flying into the regions new airport.
Ever since the Suvarnabhumi Airport was opened in 2006, it has been surrounded by controversy. Aviation Authority Airports of Thailand have attempted to solve the problem by issuing ear plus and sleeping pills.
"First they gave us earplugs, then sleeping pills, and now that some of us have developed respiratory problems, possibly caused by oil vapour from the aircraft, AoT suggested that we should buy a face-mask" Mr Thanatos Preeprem told the Bangkok Post.
The noisy disturbances are at their worst between 21:00 and 07:00, the locals claim, and due to a lack of official reply, a balloon attack has been threatened.
Thousands of balloons are to be launched on Friday the 7th of September in a bid to disrupt airport traffic, however airport police have confirmed that any people who release balloons will be arrested under Thai terrorism laws.
It's a strange world out there...
