Jandia - The Place
Jandia on the southeast coast of Fuerteventura is renowned for its long stretches of soft white sands and its rolling seas. There are twenty kilometres of beaches and sand dunes interspersed with lagoons. The trade winds, very welcome on a hot summer day, provide ideal conditions for surfing, wind surfing and sailing. The breeze is so reliable that the annual PWA wind surfing speed and slalom events are held here every August. Fuerteventura is very popular with naturists. The lighthouse at Playa del Mattoral marks the boundary between the naturist and the non-naturist beach.
Hikers will enjoy the long walk to the top of Pico de Zarza, at 807 metres the highest point on the island, where the view is absolutely stunning and well worth the effort. Go prepared with water, food and hats as there is no shade. The Jandia National Park is also worth exploring.
There is now a new golf course at Morro Jable.
The island is best explored by hiring a 4x4 or by taking a guided jeep safari. The many inland villages with their cobbled streets and whitewashed dwellings simply ooze charm. Here you can enjoy the best of traditional food.

Although there are a number of lively bars with music in Jandia, it is does not have any all-night clubs. One of the attractions of shopping in the Canary Islands is that goods are virtually tax free. There are many shops in Jandia, providing essentials as well as the usual number of gift and souvenir stalls and kiosks.
