Les Arcs Introduction

Les Arcs is a series of purpose built resorts at altitudes between sixteen hundred and two thousand metres in the Savoie region of the French Alps. Together with La Plagne, Les Arcs makes up the renowned Paradiski area that offers hundreds of kilometres of outstanding skiing both on and off piste. The slopes satisfy all ability levels and there are superb facilities for snowboarders. The villages have a wide range of good quality hotels, apartments and chalets which accommodate most tastes and budgets. There are a good number of restaurants providing a diverse cuisine and nightlife is lively with some clubs remaining open until four in the morning. Les Arcs is popular with a wide variety of skiers from families and couples to groups of young adults. Although many of the slopes are ideal for families and intermediate skiers, there are excellent off-piste runs for the more advanced skier. Snowboarders enjoy the variety of terrain found in the snow park. The lively nightlife attracts groups of young adults.

When To Go To Les Arcs

Les Arcs ski season lasts from mid December until mid April. Being high in the mountains it usually has good snow conditions. Les Arcs is also popular in the summer with hill walkers, mountain climbers and mountain bikers.

Les Arcs - The Place

Les Arcs is a high altitude purpose built resort which offers superb skiing for all levels of ability. It lies above Bourg-Saint-Maurice in the Savoie region of France. Four villages make up the resort of Les Arcs and each has an individual atmosphere. Apart from the lowest altitude village which has a certain charm, Les Arcs is not the prettiest of resort as the emphasis when planning revolved around convenience and easy access to the slopes. It has a variety of hotels, large apartment blocks and chalets supplying a wide range of accommodation which satisfies most tastes and pockets. There are many restaurants and cafes serving a diverse cuisine from traditional fondues to international dishes. Les Arcs nightlife is lively with entertainment provided by the bars, restaurants and night clubs.

Owing to its high altitude, Les Arcs can almost guarantee snow throughout the season and provides excellent conditions for all skiers. There are nursery slopes above each of the villages. For intermediate skiers the Paradiski area offers many good red and blue runs and the advanced skier will find many exciting runs such as the Aiguille Rouge black runs. There are plenty of opportunities for off-piste skiing but guides are recommended. The terrain above Les Arcs is ideal for snowboarders and there is also a snow park with jumps and a half pipe. A large number of lifts services the area giving easy access to the slopes.

There are ski schools with tuition for all levels of ability including children from four years. There are limited creche facilities for children from one year. Remember that a current vaccination certificate is required.

Les Arcs offers a variety of recreational activities which include ice skating, dog sledging, snow-shoeing and paragliding. Les Arcs is also popular in summer with mountaineers, mountain bikers and hikers.

Les Arcs Nightlife

Les Arcs nightlife is very lively with great choice of bars and restaurants. Many of the bars provide live music and a number have dance floors. There are also nightclubs where you can party until four in the morning.

Les Arcs Shopping

All of the Les Arcs villages have supermarkets for essential provisions. There is also a variety of retailers throughout the villages including clothes, sport and gift shops. The greatest variety of shops is found in the lower altitude villages.

Les Arcs has a large number of restaurants serving a wide variety of food and catering for all tastes and pockets. It serves everything from pasta and pizza to haute cuisine and from traditional home cooking to international fare, including Mexican and Asian food. There are also mountain restaurants where you take a break from skiing and enjoy spectacular scenery while eating lunch.
