La Clusaz Introduction

La Clusaz is a traditional French alpine village, surrounded by the Massif des Aravis, lying at an altitude of eleven hundred metres. Being close to the Swiss border it benefits from a short transfer time from Geneva Airport. There are also flights from Paris into Annecy which is only twenty kilometres to the west of La Clusaz. The village has a wonderful traditional atmosphere with an old church and a square at its centre. It extends over a fairly large area and some of the accommodation may be far from the lifts. Skiing spreads over five mountains offering a varied terrain that has something for everyone. It is a favourite weekend destination for visitors from neighbouring French towns and from Geneva. The slopes are ideal for novices and intermediate skiers and there are many off-piste opportunities for advanced skiers. Snowboarders can enjoy a variety of terrain. There are ski schools for all levels of expertise including children. There are also childcare facilities. La Clusaz holidays offer fun and excitement for all the family.

When To Go To La Clusaz

La Clusaz ski season lasts from mid December until mid April. Being high in the mountains it usually has good snow conditions. La Clusaz is also popular in the summer with hill walkers and mountain climbers. The lake in nearby Annecy is also an attraction.

La Clusaz - The Place

La Clusaz is an old village which has developed over the years into a popular ski resort. Being close to Annecy and Geneva, it receives many weekend visitors. It is an attractive traditional town with a square and a refurbished church at its centre. There are three main streets filled with small shops, cafés, bars and restaurants.

La Clusaz skiing encompasses five mountains and provides over one hundred and thirty kilometres of slopes. The village, at an altitude of eleven hundred metres, at times suffers from a paucity of snow, but the slopes at twenty-six hundred metres in the Massif des Aravis offer very good conditions throughout the season. Although there are opportunities for the expert skier, La Clusaz is a haven for novices and intermediate skiers. There are several lifts giving access to areas such as La Balme which is ideal for snowboarders and free style skiers. Snow boarders have free access to the slopes.

La Clusaz is a good family resort with a range of recreational facilities including an ice rink, a swimming pool and an area for children to sledge.

La Clusaz Nightlife

La Clusaz nightlife is fairly low-key reflecting the family nature of the resort. There are a number of lively bars, some with music, others screening sports events, and a club with dancing, but on the whole La Clusaz is not a resort that parties through the night.

La Clusaz Shopping

La Clusaz has a good number of shops providing essential provisions as well as those supplying sports equipment and sports clothing. There are many small shops selling local produce and gifts and souvenirs. There is also a Monday market in the Place de l'Eglise.

La Clusaz has over fifty restaurants serving a variety of cuisine and catering for most tastes and pockets. There is everything from pizzas to haute cuisine and from traditional home cooking to international fare. There are also mountain restaurants where you take a break from skiing and enjoy spectacular scenery as well as the lunch.
