Why Go To Gangou Beach?

A Gangou Beach holiday offers a relaxing break by the sea on a beach that is washed by the clearest blue waters and bleached by the summer sunshine. Additionally holidaymakers have all the interesting museums and churches, the restaurants and the shops of Samos Town only two kilometres around the bay.

A Gangou Beach holiday is popular with those who wish to be close to the capital whilst enjoying the relaxation that this peaceful area has to offer. It particularly attracts couples.

When To Go To Gangou Beach

The season lasts from April to October with the hot dry summer months being the most popular to visit Gangou Beach. Walkers prefer early and late season when the temperature is lower.

Gangou Beach - The Place

Gangou Beach is well placed in the north of the island, able to enjoy its quiet position on the bay, while being almost in spitting distance of the capital. The beach is accessed via a small steep road from the main road to Samos Town. It is a sheltered spot surrounded by tree clad hills, a perfect place to relax on a shaded sun bed before cooling off in the clear blue sea. There are a number of hotels very close to the beach and there are bars and restaurants nearby. The closeness of the capital, an attractive town with its mix of old and new buildings in pastel shades of blues and pinks and ochre, is one of the attractions of choosing Gangou Beach as a holiday base. The harbour in the centre of the town is always a hive of activity with the comings and goings of ferries, cruise ships and pleasure craft and there is always plenty to see and to do. Excursions can be taken to other islands and to Ephesus on the Turkish mainland.

A Gangou Beach holiday offers relaxation on a pleasant beach, clear blue water for bathing, and with the wonderful amenities of Samos Town almost on the doorstep.

Gangou Beach Nightlife

Samos is an island where evening entertainment is generally low-key and Gangou Beach is no exception with a handful of restaurants and bars. Samos Town’s nightlife is the liveliest on the island with an array of venues offering music and dance. Those seeking more sedate evenings will find many small restaurants and tavernas on the waterfront where peace and tranquillity can be enjoyed under the stars.

Gangou Beach Shopping

There is limited shopping in Gangou Beach but this matters little as Samos Town is the main shopping centre on the island and its narrow streets are filled with a great variety of shops. The town also has a lively market. There is always an abundant supply of pottery, embroidered cloths, leather goods and jewellery.

Gangou Beach Eating

Although Gangou Beach has restaurants and bars close by, most holidaymakers go along to Samos Town which has a wide range of eateries serving a varied cuisine from traditional fish menus to international fare. Fish is obviously an important part of an island’s gastronomy and tavernas provide a wide variety of fish as well as meat dishes. A good way to try traditional food is to order Mezedes, the Greek equivalent of the Spanish tapas, which includes a variety of bite-sized fish, meat and vegetables.

Local wines are pleasant and inexpensive.

Children are always made very welcome in restaurants and their tastes and portion size are usually accommodated.
