Claviere Introduction

Claviere is a small Italian village located on the border with France. The original village is itself very pretty and lies in stunning surroundings. The expansion to accommodate winter visitors could have been done more sympathetically. Having said that, the landscape is spectacularly beautiful and the skiing is said to be the best in the Milky Way. Apart from its local slopes it has the benefit of four hundred kilometres of piste in the afore mentioned area. Claviere lies at an altitude of seventeen sixty metres with the highest lift at twenty nine thousand metres so it is a fairly snow sure resort. Local slopes are best for intermediate and novice skiers. There is lift access to the French resort of Montgenevre. Boarders have a snow park but there is no pipe. There are excellent ski schools for adults and children and there are childcare facilities. The hotels, apartments and chalets provide comfortable accommodation and cater for most budgets. A limited number of shops supply holiday essentials and sporting equipment and accessories. Less than ten restaurants serve traditional Italian fare and with five bars and one night club evenings are relaxed. A Claviere ski holiday is perfect for those who want a peaceful break with good skiing in a pleasant friendly village.

Claviere - The Place

Claviere is Italy's oldest ski resort. Lying on the border with France it benefits from a ninety minute transfer from Turin Airport. As part of the Milky Way ski area it has lift links to more than four hundred kilometres of runs. Nestling in forested slopes beneath rugged mountains Claviere is an attractive resort which has been slightly marred by non-sympathetic developments such as multi-storey apartments. Despite this, it retains a charm of its own. Claviere ski holidays cater mainly for the intermediate skier and to a lesser degree for the novice. There is off piste skiing for experts but in the interest of safety this should only be attempted with a mountain guide. There is a snow park for boarders but there is no pipe. Chair and drag lifts give easy access to the slopes. Classes are available for adults and children and childcare facilities are available. Comfortable accommodation caters for all budgets, cuisine is excellent and night life relaxed. Recreational activities include Skidooing, torch light skiing, sleigh riding, ice skating and walking trails.

A Claviere ski holiday is superb value for money, skiing is great, facilities good and the locals warm and hospitable. Most importantly, it has a good snow record.
